I would just like to share the fact that my EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 exploded last week. I just cannot believe it. It has worked perfectly since the day I got it, and I've not had a single power issue since installing it. The unit itself was barely a year old. I keep my case dust free, regularly maintaining it to keep crap and debris out of it.

At the time my system was completely at stock clock speeds, so no OC on CPU, GPU or anything like that.

It was around 5am...my friend had just got me into playing World Of Tanks.
We'd been playing happily for a good few hours and then BOOM.

Big flash of light and very loud POP/BANG and the PSU was no more...
Am now in the process of RMA'ing (Oh baby 10 year warranty)

I'm really hoping the rest of my parts aren't fried.. I'm sure they're fine but until I get a replacement unit I'll have no way of knowing :(

But seriously... can anyone think why one of the most robust and awesome PSU's on the market would do this?

That was my initial thought, but then the system has been plugged into that socket for the last 4 months and it's been absolutely fine.

The most interesting part I found was that everything else was completely unaffected. My monitor, lamp, peripherals, speakers you name it, was absolutely fine. The socket was still working perfectly, except for my PSU.. so I swapped the plug to see if that socket had blown and anything else I plugged in to it still worked fine. It didn't even trip the circuit breaker..

Do you not have a multi-socket surge protector like this? http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-6-Outlet-Surge-Protector-Power/dp/B00TP1C51M/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1455991279&sr=1-5&keywords=surge+protector You should be using one if you aren't.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Alas I was not... to my own folly.. I will definitely procure one for when the RMA unit returns... ugh the waiting.

Alrighty. Just to let you know, if power to your house is that bad you might want something with a bit more resistance like this surge protector here. http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-BE112230-08-12-Outlet-Surge-Protector/dp/B000J2EN4S/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1456075489&sr=1-4&keywords=surge+protector
