Okay, I was just thinking incase the old lead that im using does not transfer enough power to the psu, I'm pretty sure the lead was from a 300w psu, and the psu is 500w

as long as it isnt melting or on fire then it can easily transfer all 500W and more

Hey all, so after ordering my 500W psu for my build, it only came with a 2pin plug, so I've been using a 3 pin lead from my ancient computer to power it. When ever my gpu gets underload and draws more power, it crashes. I was wondering if this was caused by the kettle lead not being the one that came with the psu?

Is "kettle lead" some sort of British term? Are you talking about the cord connecting the PSU to the wall?

Yeah, the lead that* goes from the PSU into the mains. I call it a kettle lead, idk why but I don't know the proper name for it

I dont see why the PSU came with a 2 prong cable, PSUs should always come with 3 prong

but no, using 3 prong cable should not be causing your PC to shut off

The end the plugs into the mains is 2 prong, and I live in england so I've been using an old lead that is 3-pin. The end that plugs into the PSU is 3 pin on both the leads (Old and new)

Okay, I was just thinking incase the old lead that im using does not transfer enough power to the psu, I'm pretty sure the lead was from a 300w psu, and the psu is 500w

The extra lead you're referring to is just a ground. The only problem you might be having is that your PSU and chasis isn't grounded properly. That can cause problems, but as Enderman said it shouldn't affect power draw.
