Need Help Choosing MOBO and CPU

Hi I was looking to upgrade my motherboard and CPU in preparation for when the new Polaris etc comes out. My budget is around £300-£400

Gaming, and a little photo editing and the occasional video

DDR3 or DDR4? You need to specify what exactly you want

Video editing? Xeon E3-1231v3 + any B85/H81/H97 board. That Xeon is basically an i7-4770 without the iGPU.

If you already have ddr3: Z97 and probably 4690k or maybe 4790k if it fits in your budget

If not: skylake 6600k

Mkay...wouldve helped. In that case (pun intended), you can take out the cooler, go with the 6700K and get ddr4

It's nice to finally see someone say "I'll get one of the Polaris GPUs when they come out." I've seen way too many people say "I'll get a Pascal" or "I'll be upgrading to Pascal once..." OMG it's making my head spin!

I might upgrade to Polaris depending on circumstances. For me though Pascal is out of the question as I have a freesync monitor.

Just curious as why you decided to choose Polaris over Pascal

Haha I was thinking the same lol. But it's basically because AMD actually have got some numbers and are ontop of their shit at the moment. It looks like its gonna be big, but Nvidia are sort of lacking at the moment.

Good point.

Pascal might be delayed too. Since AMD had a working sample at the beginning of the year chances are it taped out about a month before that. Pascal, on the other hand, seems to only have taped out recently.

I mean why else would they have faked the Drive PX 2 with gtx 980ms

Haha yeah Nvidia I think are scared because AMD have the upper hand for once and then didn't help themselves by saying they had a similar product and faked it ? AMD also showed that their prototype used about 60% less power meaning it can run quicker and cheaper for the same energy consumption
