Belize, actually. Police wanted to question him in connection to a murder at his neighbor's house, and he believed they wanted to kill him so he fled. It doesn't sound like Belizian authorities actually thought he'd done it, it sounds more like he's extremely paranoid.

Our local news here in the Bay Area, CA was all over his nuts with this story. It was their top story all night.

 

They acted like he was apple and the public's genius White Knight in shining armor.
