How to switch between speakers and headphone?

Zackfoo

Alright let me explain it in a way as simple as i can.

I have an extension from motherboard audio input out to my desk. I will like to switch between my speaker and headphone just by pluging in and out.

But my headphone will ever have any sound if i plug and play. Any smarter methods or fix?

Audio input or output? If it is the input, there's your problem. Check the sound properties (right click on the speaker in the taskbar, click on 'Playback devices' and select which device you want to be default. Some sound cards can let you output sound to both headphones and speakers, but that's usually in the driver software.

You're on an ASUS board, which means you'll be using Realtek's audio drivers. By default, when headphones or anything are plugged in to your front-panel connector, it will mute the rear I/O ports. However, for an external audio device plugged in, it might not function properly. Navigate to your Realtek Audio Manager's settings page, and enable independent audio devices across all inputs. On my board, this is what the option looks like:

This should fix your issue, in theory.
