Tons of tutorials online.

Here's a relatively modern one.

EDIT: Don't use programs for overclocking a CPU. I tried that and it was a mess! I absolutely hated it! I initially wanted to do it cuz I didn't want to reboot every time but I found going into the bios is a whole lot easier than using any program.

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Is it possible to do it without BIOS? How do I know if its going to have problems if I'm in the BIOS

CS750M Corsair PSU. i7-4790k. MSI Z97M Gaming motherboard. The cooler should also be sufficient.

It is possible, but I personally hate the programs that let you. They are ridiculously complicated and don't always give you access to all the settings.

Here is a guide that I can think of on my own:

1. For you raise your multiplier in the bios to 4.5 ghz.

2. Raise the voltage some bit.

3. Run Asus Realbench for about 10 minutes. If you don't get a BSOD, you are good to go. Otherwise, if it says something like iqrl less or not equal you need to raise the voltage a little

4. While running Realbench monitor your temps with something like HwMonitor

5. Raise the multiplier up one more bit.

6. Repeats 2-5 until either your temps are too high or you are using too much voltage (somewhere around 1.39 volts is getting a little high for a 4790k).

If you get some weird bsods that say some weird stuff like Intel watchdog timeout or something else weird, search it up on google and you are sure to find results.

note: You don't have to use asus Realbench for the stress tests. Aida 64 is another good one-it also lets you monitor temps.
