Safe OC 5280k?

Go to solution Solved by BoredErica,

For 5 years... 1.36v is OK. 1.3v is safe. Wouldn't hit or break 1.4v.

Longevity depends in large part to usage. When people say they want '24/7 safe overclock', rarely do the people actually use their CPU 100% 24/7. And there's different levels of 100% load. So are you just gaming? Or do you do something that taxes the CPU to 100% at night when you're sleeping?

I read online that you can safely OC a 4820k to 4.4 or 4.5 using 1.36v (pref. under 1.3v), and by cooling it so it stays under 70°C.

This should only take 2years off its life expectancy and it should still live about 8 years... is this correct?

My goal is to use my system for 5 years. Please an update or a confirmation so I'll know what to do.

I want to be future proof when it comes down to multitasking and directx 12 gaming.

1.3V is a pretty safe bet IMO for a 5820k

and aiming for 70c is also a pretty safe bet, it won't affect your cpu's lifespan that much since your cpu is built for overclocking.
