Using onboard graphics AND GPU

I was wondering, I am working on a machine at school that is being used to drive several displays at the same time, with the displays being different TVs with different information. The station is built off an Asus Z87-A Motherboard and I was wondering if I could somehow use the VGA Out and HDMI out on the motherboard, as well as the HDMI out on a video card. I know that when you put a video card into a motherboard it usually disables onboard graphics or limits you to only 1 display but I was hoping there was maybe a way to override this and make it use all outputs?

There's usually an option in the bios that is disabled by default that enables multi monitor with the iGPU and a dGPU. All you would need to do is turn it on and you can run as many displays off the iGPU as you have connectors for or that the iGPU can support.

Check the bios, there should be an option to ignore the auto iGPU disable.

As others have said,

Go into bios, enable iGPU, set which GPU is the main one (which would normally be the dGPU) , enable Multi monitor option in bios and then you should be done.

You'll need to install the iGPU drivers before anything comes on screen though.

Once that's done all is good.

Depending what you're running you can get 2-3 screens off the iGPU and 4-6 from the dGPU.

 

I use this set up myself. Works great.

It's not a race to the bottom.

One thing to note when using a dGPU and iGPU setup is that when running a browser with hardware acceleration enabled, switching a window between monitors running on different GPUs will cause the window to lock up, you will need to use WinKey + arrow key to move the window back. I use a dGPU/iGPU setup and had this happen with Firefox until I disabled hardware acceleration. Not sure what other situations can cause similar issues with a dGPU/iGPU setup.
