Building my first PC and im curious if there is anyway that I can lower the price abit but still keeping the performance, I want to keep the 970, but I think I might get rid of the cooler and overclock at a later time.

Define abit. Because you can get the msi 390 to keep the color scheme and pay $1 less. Unless your 100% on the 970, then nothing you can do really.

So i basically want to keep the performance of the pc (970 and I5) but im trying to find ways of lowering the cost such as taking out the cooler and overclocking later

Swap 390 with a 970 if you so wish. Also, you cannot overclock on H97 so I fixed that.

Yeah, dropping the cooler for now would drop the price a bit. However, going to be quiet troublesome replacing it when you upgrade. Besides that, the only thing I can think of is getting a 390, which would cost less and arguable give you more performance. But if your set on the 970, that's about it.

Overclocking is unessisary for gaming, you're better off for the long run with a Xeon 1231v3 and a 390, the 390 is overall faster than the 970 and has potentially better DX12/Vulkan support in addition to saving you money on an adaptive sync display should you ever invest in one.

Might have been the base can't remember now been over a year but I was running stable 4.5ghz for the whole time i had the combo.

EDIT: Just checked the ASUS website and the H97-Pro Gamer was able to Overclock via the multiplier, and I remember now the BIOS has a built in O.C function (Didn't get as far as I liked, only 3.8...)
