Hello everyone! I am trying to decide on which headphones are the best for gaming. I'm trying to decide between three different Hifiman models. I'm looking for great sound stage with excellent bass as well as mids and treble. I will be using a schiit lyr 2 headphone amplifier.

Well the most expensive is the HE-560 and the best in the line, you shouldn't compare headphones from the same brand like this.

Intel Core i7 7770K | 32 GB's Ram 3000MHz | GTX 1080 Ti | 250GB SSD | 3TB 7400 RPM | Sound Blaster Z | ASUS ROG MG278Q | Razer Blackwidow Chroma | Final Mouse 2015 | Blue Yeti | Seinheiser HD 600's | Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro | Aune T1 MK2

I have just tried the hole Hifiman lineup exept the HE-1000 and I must say the He-560 is noth worth the premium over the 400i for me atleast.

From what I have hear the He-500 should be pretty heavy. That is not a cheap amp, that amp almost cost the same as the 400i in EU.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.

True, but the he560 can be found at black friday sale price, and he400i is back to its regular price so the gap is closer now unless op wants to wait for another sale.

I don't know if OP is willing to wait until black friday. Have the he400i been on sale?

Edit:

OMG they are 450$ in the US. they cost 520€ in EU and 1€=1.12$ I mean wtf.

I've seen it for $300 quite often after BF sale, now it's $460-500 compare to he560 for $700.

Edit: Since op is considering he560, might want to check out lcd2.2f on sale right now for $750

I haven't heard the HE-400i unfortunately.

But every review I've read notes that the HE-400i has a smaller soundstage than the HE-560. In my experience, the HE-560 has a surprisingly cohesive and three-dimensional soundstage and if you can afford it you should get it.

I highly, highly recommend that you also pick up the Focus-A pads to go with it. They smooth out the upper mid-range and provide even slightly more air in the staging.

From the short time (20 min) I tried them today I will say that the HE-400i has a bit smaller soundstage when you compare them to the HE-560, the 400i still has a pretty big soundstage.

Doesn't the 400i and the 560 come with focus-A pads?
