Does he have a graphics card already?

Is he okay with used parts?

Fine you want the PSU tier list? Have the PSU tier list: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40-rev-103/

I really dont think its possible. For what he needs, the cpu is already 300$, so unless he ditches 1200$, this wont be getting on its track, with new parts. In Europe tough, this would be a lot harder to build :P, import taxes and vats sux :/

So is there any gaming involved? as an FX 8 core is probably the best CPU you're going to get at that budget

So then ditch the GPU here then upgrade the RAM here and get an after market heatsink for overclocking, something like a Hyper 212

His only option is ebay... As long as you get them from a good seller you should be fine.

I'll post parts in a minute.

His core 2 duo is working pretty fine but anything that can quadruple his cpu performance plus he will be fine with.

Maybe an older 3770K then? Could potentially work just fine, and if he could get one, a 3960X-3970X used?

Used parts are too sparatic and may be broken

also a Xeon 1231v3 with 16gbs of RAM is doable, so

@sebz2
probably just go for this

Not everyone sells broken parts :p. I still have hope in sellers sigile and honesty. Not on Ebay of course. And yeah, a high end Xeon and ECC memory for this persons work would be a lot safer and more future tasks "saviour", but with such a budget, every option counts i guess :/.

This ain't a NAS, or other high compute server, a bit flip really isn't going to hurt much if any, there's only a tiny chance of one happening anyways
