how to install win 8.1 on a new pc

sirbonneville

i have a x64 windows 8.1 install disk (unused) with the serial code and im looking to put it on my new machine. here are some questions:

1: do my hard drives need to be NTFS?

2: can i just pop the CD in and turn it on and it'll install?

3: this is sort of off topic but i downloaded the newest bios update onto a flash drive (because i need to update something) can i just stick the drive into a usb slot and go to bios? if so, where will i have to navigate to to have the bios read the flash drive? how will it work?

1. It will format for you if needed

2. You need to boot to the CD which might not be the first thing on your list so going into the bios may be needed.

3. The procedure varies per motherboard, you'd have to consult your manual.

1. yes, the installer can format and partition the drive for you.

2. maybe, probably yes if there's nothing else to boot from, if not go to boot menu or bios boot order and make sure it's set to boot from the disc drive.
3. check your motherboard's manual.
