So I am thinking of updating my aging 2600k. I have had it since 2011 so its nearly 5 years old now and has been OC'd since the start. I have noticed of left that I am getting random slow downs in games and after restarting the PC this goes away for awhile. I am noticing that the CPU is running quite hot even when under liquid. I cleaned it a few weeks ago, re-applied thermal paste and made sure the liquid cooling was secured. Even had a friend double check it. Same issue occurs,

So my question what can honestly replace for a good value and offer an upgrade. The 2600k is an insanely good processor and has held up well in every single game. i would also need to upgrade my Mobo as well for this most likely. Any suggestions would be great!

CPU: Ryzen R7 1800x (4.0GHz) | AIO: Master Liquid Pro 240 | MOBO:  MSI X370 XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM

RAM:  Gskill TridentZ RGB 3200(16gb) | GPU: Evga FTW ACX  3.0 GTX 1080(2x)

                             SSD: Samsung Evo 250gb | HSSD: Seagate 2TB | Case: InWin 303 Black | PSU: Evga 210 1000w

If you have the money, a 5820K is really good at the moment. Curious though, is the 2600K still unstable even without the OC?

I think an newer Z170 or even Z97 motherboard can offer a whole host of new features the old board didn't have. Whether or not you would actually make use of them is an entirely different question.

Motherboards are basically the same save a few feature adds.

I'd probably go with a used 4790k, but I'm cheap and like to save as much as I can.

You can get pretty awesome deals on 5930k's right now. That would give you a solid platform for I imagine the next 6 or 7 years.
