So kind of a newb question but, what is the point of raid? I've read about it and the various flavors but what are the pros aside from reduced error/backup? How hard is it to set up/run?

its to either increase performance in storage speed or to increase redundancy in storage arrays that are mission critical or sometimes both. (RAID 5) just like Linux there are many different flavors of it. heres a video on showing you how to do RAID 0 and RAID 1. Mostly RAID setups are used in either massive storage arrays or in high performance computers or just in a computer with aging drives
