When I start my PC, I'm unable to connect to the internet and load web pages, play games etc. If I restart the machine, it works away Ok for around 5 mins or so, then the same problem - web pages won't load, games can't connect to server. If I'm playing a game, like Battlefront, as long as i can connect to the server {after restart} , i can play for hours with no problem, but as soon as  i leave the game, no more web pages will load.

I've tried using a cable and disabling the wireless adaptor, but its exactly the same problem - connectivity 5 mins then have to restart to get back online.

Any ideas folks? I'm stumped :(

I'm no networking expert, but it might help if you took a look at what your local network looked like from your computer before and after being disconnected.

I think if you just go to the Network and Sharing center, and click on Local Area Connection, then Details. I think that window will probably have one or two things that you'd have to blur out in a screenshot, but it could possibly provide info to you about what's happening.

Check the window when you've confirmed that you have internet access, save a screenshot of it for you to compare.

When you lose your connection, look at it again and see if anything has changed.

Is your PC still getting an IP address, do you still have a default gateway, DHCP/DNS server, subnet mask...

Check to see if you can still access your router's web configuration interface - could it be the router causing problems?

... Speaking of routers, you could also try restarting the router if you haven't tried that already.

You been Pork'd.

Hi porky, thanks for the suggestions - tried the control panel stuff, but can't find the 'local area connection' option I'm afraid!  I just connect to a wireless router , I'm not even sure I'm describing things correctly, after 10 years on a Mac I'm a little out of my depth here!

You won't have a Local Area Connection in your Network and Sharing Center if you're not using a wired connection. If you're using a wireless connection, it will say something different. The spot that you click on will still be the same, though. I believe it just says "Wireless Network Connection" if you are connected wirelessly.

I've blurred some things out in my screenshots. Again, I'm not an expert with networking, and the stuff that I've blurred out isn't really too sensitive; I just preferred to keep my computer name and some other things specific to my computer, to myself.
