HyperX Cloud I vs II

Go to solution Solved by Darkseth,

Cloud 1, if its more than 20 bucks cheaper.

2 has only one difference: a Mediocre Usb-Soundcard with a mediocre surround-effect. Without even a Driver for it, for any settings.

You are FAR better off, buying the Cloud 1, a Xonar DGX Soundcard (Much better than the Cloud 2 USB soundcard), and it has the exadct same 7.1 surround simulation, called "Dolbi headphone".

--> Cloud 1 + Xonar DGX has BETTER Audio Quality, than Cloud 2 + USB Soundcard.

And on top of that, you can download Razer surround. A Software, that works with ANY Soundcard/headset, and has one of the best surround simulations, that i've ever tried. MUCH better, than Dolbi headphone.

However... If its like 10 bucks more. Then why not.

Hey guys!

I have a question, is it worth it to buy Cloud 2 instead of 1? Difference is only in lenght of cable, 7.1 audio and better microphone and +20€.

I'm asking becouse i don't know what can i excpect from that 7.1 sound because Cloud 1 are still better rated, so if any of you know which one are better let me know.

Thank you in advance. :)

Not really a better Mic? i think it same one. If you want 7.1 go cloud 2. I have cloud 1 and been working really well for over a year now.

I got a HyperX Cloud II for my little sister.

I did a blind test to see if the digital 7.1 sound was worth anything. I didn't really like it, it made the sounds in CSGO kind of muddy, it wasn't actually easier to pinpoint where sounds were coming from.

I own and use, sorted from newest to oldest: SteelSeries 6Gv2. Microsoft SideWinder X4. Mionix Naos 7000. Zowie EC1 Evo. Microsoft SideWinder X8. Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. Dell U2414H. Samsung P2270H. AKG K273 Pro. Sennheiser HD555. Razer Goliathus Speed Medium. Func 1030 L. Qpad CT Medium.

I used to own: Razer DeathAdder 3G. Razer Krait. IntelliMouse Optical 1.1. SteelSeries QcK.

Oh, I don't think it's a bad headset. I can't speak for the microphone quality, but the headphones themselves are good. And unlike most headsets, since it's based on the signature Beyerdynamic design, you can buy replacement earpads when the ones it comes with start looking like a petri dish for ebola or if you just want something more comfortable.

The one downside of the HyperX Cloud is that the cable is not removable.

Um, excuse me? All surround in headphones is "fake". Either you have smaller, physical drivers that just play things at different volumes to create an illusion of distance, or you have a piece of software that does the same thing. In the case of HyperX Cloud II, they come with a detachable dongle that happens to have volume control, mic volume control and a switch to turn on a surround. If you don't turn it on, it might as well not exist. You can also just not use the detachable dongle and plug it straight into a combined audio/microphone jack.

The point I was making about the HyperX Cloud is that they don't tweak the audio signature unlike Razer and SteelSeries, which makes it better as optimizing for videogames makes it shit for listening to music.

Dolby 7.1 is digital, simulated surround sound, thus = fake. Just like every other piece of software out there such as Razer Surround.

Also, there aren't any better headsets under $100 that will top the HyperX Cloud. The only thing that comes close sells for $20 less and is the Skullcandy SLYR, but as of late the units have been plagued with quality control issues so I have started recommending them less and less.

The difference between the 2 is that the Cloud 2 has a usb dongle.... That's the only difference, and the dongle is utter crap. If you want 7.1 for ANY headphone/headset, download Razer Surround, it is free and voila, you get your fake surround sound.

I HIGHLY recommend just grabbing the Cloud or Cloud Core, no sense in overspending as once you get into the $100+ segment for headset, you may as well just say fk it and grab the Sennheiser G4ME One for $150 and be set.

Cloud has accessories whereas the Cloud Core is quite simply the headset and comes with an extension cable to split the headphone/microphone.

As for where to buy the Cloud Core, I'm honestly not sure for overseas locations, but, since they are available in the U.S from GameStop.com, I would assume that one of GameStop's European stores would offer it as well.
