$300-$400 Console Killer PC

After stumbling across Linus' channel I realise what an idiot I was for buying a console. Now I a planning a Gaming PC build.

Requirements:

$300-$400 USD

1080p-1440p single monitor

Gaming and light programming

SSD

ATX/micro ATX/mini ITX

I'm prepared to by parts second hand and I'm prepared to pay for peripherals and a monitor separately.

I'm grateful for all feedback

Well, I'd say aim for gaming at 1080p.

No console can do 1440p, nor can a $400 budget.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Best bet is to spend the $400 on a tower and get everything else seperately.

Do you have a monitor, keyboard and mouse you could reuse?

This is your best bet for $400

Or spend an extra 25 for a r7 370. Paying a console prices will get you a JUST a bit better than console performance.

If you're going second hand look for a HD 7970, it's basically a 280X.

Go for something like @TheRandomness posted. Good starter build, though you might want to put a bit more cash into it and go for a motherboard platform that isn't dead. (I can recommend a build if you're Ok with going used as well. )

If you're going used on a $400 budget, go Intel. You'll be able to at least get an i5, if not an i7, from the second gen. I seen a Dell on CL with a 2600 (non-k) for about $130-$140 (somewhere in there). Granted it has an OEM mobo, but it came with dedicated graphics and a 500GB HDD (I think, it may have been 1TB).
