Nvidia Pascal What To Do?

Go to solution Solved by Dzzope,

If you want bang for buck.. look used... a 290 now used will be MUCH better value than anything else new... Especially if you WANT to upgrade come pascal... personally I'd stay used top end last gen... So 290 / 780ti, then bump when you need to the current version.. :)

I'm looking to build my new PC soon but upon hearing that Pascal could be releasing soon I am undecicive of what to do.

Sould I buy a more expencive graphics card like the GTX 970 now but I will miss out on performance when the new Pascal GPUs release.

Or I could buy cheap graphics card like the 750 ti and upgrade later.

I want to start gaming now but if I bought a cheap card it might be hard to sell it if everyone is trying to seek there old cards to buy the new ones.

What do you suggest I do?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Up to you mate. We don't know what kind of performance Pascal will have, but it's speculated to be a way larger jump than Kepler was to Maxwell since 4k and VR is starting to become a thing.

If it were me I would just get a used, working GPU.

That sounds like a GREAT idea thanks. I'll defiantly look at some cheap GPU's

If you're not going to game much , or play games that are not graphically intensive then go with a cheap used graphics card. That's what I did.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5800X GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080 12GB + Motherboard: Asus Crosshair VIII Hero

Case: Asus ROG Strix Helios Gundam Edition Power Supply: Asus ROG Thor 850P

for one, buy a 390 over the 970 :P

Why? Because on this forum that's the culturally accepted thing to do? Nothing wrong with a 970 and in some instances the 970 is a better choice than the 390.

Back on topic.

We don't know anything for sure about Pascal yet. I wouldn't worry too much. But if you're concerned get a EVGA. Comes with 90 days of upgrade protection where you can trade your card in for what you paid for it towards the new card.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I don't deny that but the price difference still justifies the performance. a +10 or +20 core clock would surpass the 970 easily and vise versa, but the 390 has the 970 beat by price.
