Headset VS separate microphone?

I was considering getting a headset, but I have a pair of headphones which I have no problems with, it just doesn't have a mic. Instead of buying a mic in a gaming headset I was thinking of getting a mic separately.

The one I plan on getting is this one my brother has been using for quite a while now and I've seen it in action and I will personally praise its quality.

Has anyone else done this over just a two in one approach the headset gives?

There's a thing called Mod Mic that lets you attach a mic to any headset. That might be a good option for you.

Nah. You can talk to someone from across the room with it in my brother's case. No need to have it that close to my face. Didn't know stuff like that existed though so that's pretty cool.

I'd rather have the mic on my headset just to keep it out of the way. But honestly I wouldn't be thrilled with an additional cord running from my headset.

Thing is, for the sake of your listener, you want the microphone to be as close as possible so it's not picking up all the background noise. That's just good microphone etiquette.;)

A 5€ Zalman mic1 (a really cheap clip mic) is really NOT worse than most <120€ heaset mics.

So yea.. Any mic, that goes slightly into professional mode (like a better membrane, etc) should perform much better than most "Gaming headsets".
