Hey everyone,

I plan on getting another 970 for my new build and I'm not quite sure what kind of power supply I need.

I've searched on the web and some forums recommend at least 850W while others (and some power-calculators) suggest that 650w is enough.

I plan on running a 6700k with AIO cooling, SSD + HD and the usual other stuff. Nothing fancy ontop.

What do you guys think?

A good quality 750 Watt should do, 650 could work but is cutting it close and beyond its most efficient.

To have 850W would be better a 970 can grab up to 270-300W(under full, full, full load usually under hard work 250W) (note that some PSUs will be noise If you run them near the power Limit)

650W is r commended for SLI 970s. Three un-overclocked 980s on a 3960X don't even breach 600W so two overclocked 970s on a lesser CPU will be more than ok.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

970s can consume  a good amount of power and I recommend a corsair ax860 or ax860i. but if you have a more power hungry cpu you might want something a tad bigger like a EVGA supernova 1000 ps

Be a complete waste of money going for a 1000w PSU. 850 justifiable.

So would it be safe to say that 750W would be the best/safest choice here?

It's what I would get, it gives you headroom, allows for carefree overclocking, and the PSU would operate efficiently when under heavy load with a 750W. Either way you wouldn't need more than that.

My system pulls at the most 530w from the wall. That's with a 5820k running at 4.5Ghz and 2 gtx 970s in sli running at around 1450mhz. So ideally for the 6700k and sli 970s probably 600-650w psu to land in the area for max efficiency under load.
