PC build for a friend

So.. my friend finally got around convincing his mom to get him a desktop, and asked me to plan a rig for him.

He'll be doing some gaming,3D modeling and rendering, he specifically said he wanted a GTX 970 but idk if i can fit it in the 1.5k SGD budget he set.

The catch is that he doesn't wanna buy internationally so i kinda have to follow the price list from the local stores

http://www.fuwell.com.sg/uploads/misc/Fuwell300116.pdf

http://www.bestpricesg.com/

(the prices are in the pricelist are in SGD)

He does want 1080p monitor and the cheapest one i can find is the samsung  S22D300H for 188 SGD

He has a keyboard and mouse already but still needs an operating system

i tried piecing together a balanced rig with a i5 and 970 but i went 500 SGD over budget.....

So i'd thought i would ask you guys to put together a rig.

Edit: Basically i have a budget of about 1,500 SGD and i can only shop locally in Singapore.

The two links above are pricelist of two local shops

Does he have any reason to want an Nvidia GPU? Is he doing 3D modeling professionally?

as for gaming a 390 would be a better value if it's the same price

otherwise assuming the price of $1000 translates, you're going to want a Xeon 1231v3 + H97 motherboard and possibly 16gbs of RAM

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

well the problem is where i live in, the 390x has a slightly higher price tag than the 970

Sure, the 390 is about the same price as a 970 but he's going to be mostly gaming and only 3d model as a hobby.

and local stores don't offer any type of xeon processor

Well the 390X would have more performance as well, how slight would it be? as the 390 is already faster than the 970

If that Xeon isn't avalible you'd want whatever i7 is the cheapest with decent clock speeds over 3Ghz

The 970 range from about 499 to 625 SGD

the 390x ranges from about 699 to 819 SGD

Well it's probably worth the extra 70 there, just need a decent PSU for it, as it is going to use 50-100W more power on average, anything about 600W would work fine so long as it's at least 80 plus

well i would gladly go for a better GPU but the problem lies in the budget

even with a i5 and a 970 or 390 i couldn't fit below the 1.5k sgd budget

8GB of memory is sufficient, especially with an ssd.

A less expensive case would be one place to save.

Ya, get a less expensive case

Maybe drop the SSD

Make sure the display is at least IPS as TN really sucks in most cases

you could always just "find" windows somewhere anways

and if you need to get the price down further drop down to the 380/x or 960 if the 960 is significantly cheaper than the 380

my friend specified he wanted the define s probably because he wants to put a design on it or something

if i go for 8 gb of memory it'll save 80 resulting in the total being 1853 or1813

Go with the H81M-A and the i5-4460. That should save another 100.
