Please just make one topic and stuff all your questions in it instead of posting individual topics. It makes it easier for everyone and we'd happily help you.

 

To answer your question: sure, why not--modern hdds don't really care about their orientation. After all, it's a laptop that's meant to be mobile.

Hdds in general are ticking time bombs that can fail at any time with no warning due to how fragile they are. Drop one a few feet and it could be dead.
