So I might be trying something daring and overclock my i5 6500. I have the CRYORIG H7 with a Z170 board. Any one know what overclocks I should expect or should I just push it as hard as I can with out going over 1.3V by a lot? Also (unrelated to CPU overclocking) what would you recommend I overclock my GPU with? MSI Afterburner or something else? It's a Sapphire R9 390 BTW.

I have been thinking about this and I decided I would overclock after watching this video.

Thoughts?

Don't worry about going over 1.3v, skylake has really high voltage tolerance, 1.4v is essentially the new 1.3v.

MSI afterburner is a safe bet yea!

do it, its a "Z" board, so its "reliable" as far as overclocking...  Personally I think the OC of none K is really interesting with regards to i3, but if you can do it why not...

Paul only had a Hyper T4(although not much difference between the H7) I believe and he got 4.2ghz. I probably won't go that high so I should be safe and not go over 1.35 like Paul did.

You should be able to get 4.2-4.5 no problem honestly.  Anything up to 1.4-1.45v is fine for 24/7 on Skylake if you have proper cooling.   Getting rid of FIVR and this new architecture really gives us a lot of voltage headroom, the CPU's run really cool at 1.3v+ still, which is real nice :D

1.45V?

In this video Linus says to not go over 1.42V and he has a 6700K.

q

Asus have said 1.4V max if you stress test.

1.42V if you stress test while water cooled.

1.45V if you dont stress test.   <-- so for gaming and 24/7 use, no problem at all with GOOD COOLING

IE: If you're not going to run prime95 24/7 for a week to find out if it's stable, 1.45v is fine.
