GPU Price Deterioration After Pascal

Go to solution Solved by ant333man,

I sold my 290 here way after the 390 was out. My ad lasted 30 minutes lol.

Ok I probably will just wait then.

So I was wondering how much worth GPUs lose after their successors are released. I have a GTX 980 and was wondering how much you think I could get for it after Pascal comes out. Is $350ish too optimistic? I want to know if I should sell it now and get something to hold me over until Pascal, or if I would be fine selling it then. Thanks!

Yeah I'm talking about if I were to sell my 980 on ebay before vs after pascal.

Don't sell on eBay, sell it here. All someone has to do is say it does not work and they get their money back. No matter what.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Depends on when you sell. When everyone else does? You'll take a hit. Wait until everyone calms down and you'll be fine.

So you're saying selling early wouldn't be necessary?

Depends if you need the money from the sale to buy the new card.

But I would wait until the replacement for the 980ti hits. Much better value. But at least a year away.

Yeah but people on here most likely wouldn't buy a 980 at $350 after Pascal. From previous generational upgrades the new gpu around that price would cream the 980.

Not at retail stores for some reason.

Retail is different, they want their margins even if it means literally scamming people on outdated products

In my country i've seen a geforce 250GTS selling for 180$ in retail, and i'm not even exaggerating

We're most likely 6 months or more from seeing a replacement for the 980. The official announcement is months away. Don't get too swept up in the hype.

I thought there were rumors of April for a titan replacement and June for the 1080. Still is far away even if that is the case so you do have a point.

The chances of Nvidia releasing a graphics card before it's even announced are improbable. June is when we may see the announcement, most likely July. September is when the industry agrees we "may" see the first cards like the new Titan.

The rumor mill is overactive because there's not much to talk about. So the discussions switch to rumors.

Here is what you do. Sell it now and get good cash. Go buy a r9290x or 390x then when you get your Pascal the 390x will still be worth good money since gnc hardware holds it value and future drivers support it.

Sell a 980 to buy a lower performing graphics card.

You give horrible advice.
