Q: Laptop memory upgrade

Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

just get another DDR3 2gb stick, the rest shouldn't be an issue

So i just realized that my sister's 3 yr old laptop has only 2gb instead of 4gb (i didnt realize for 3 years thats why it was so slow. It's an i5 2410 and clevo mobo. The memory it has is an apotop 2gb 1333mhz, the question is can i buy a different brand of memory with the same freqs and lats and combine with it? TIA :)

I see, Id actually like to get 4gb but yeah i guess it will do. Thanks a bunch!

I think don_svetlio meant to get a second 2gb stick to add on, not to just replace the 2gb with another 2gb. Make sure the pc is compatible with more than 2 gigs of ram, and that there's a second slot. If it's compatible with 4 gigs, but if there's only one slot, you'll need to get a 4 gig stick. Also, make sure to get laptop memory, normal RAM wont be compatible in a laptop.

Yes, i have that in mind. I was planning to buy 2x4gb to replace the 2gb but now i know i can just add an extra 4gb to make it 6gb which will do just fine. Thanks for the input ;)

Verify on the site of the laptop manufacturer that it actually supports more than 4 gigs of ram. Not nearly all laptops do and if it doesn't you may end up wasting money.
