usb wifi cards

i have currently a usb netgear ac 1200 wifi card for my custom built pc.  i am using an asus ac-2400 router in my home. when i go into my settings it says that my pc is running off N wifi?  i cant figure out how to connect using AC wifi.  look at the screen shot i took from my pc and please help me figure this out.  thanks

Are you connected to the 5GHz band? And is that band set in your router configurations to AC?

 

The Netgear you have (I have as well) does a phenomenal job of band optimization so it may be that the -N (generally but not always 2.4 Ghz band) is less congested or has better signal than the AC band.

 

Also for that particular device, it is super important you install the driver from Netgear's site. Makes a good 10x difference in speed.
