Hi everyone, I know this is probably a noob question, but what's the difference between OBS's NVENC vs Nvidia's Shadowplay? How do the performance differ? I was planning to try out using QSV for recording in OBS, but I found a comparison video online of the options and it seems like that NVENC performs a bit better than QSV. Thanks.

you cant use shadowplay with AMD cards :P

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

So they are essentially the same performance and quality wise (unless you force the bitrate in OBS to be higher than shadowplay)?

or lower

yes

you can also use Interl Quick Sync

What do you mean by lower? "Shadowplay has same or lower quality" or "OBS has same or lower quality"? Also, I was planning to use QSV but I found some comparison videos and they all show that NVENC is slightly faster and records with less of performance hit. But otherwise, I use QSV for video rendering.

you can change bitrate for your stream/recording in OBS in Encoding settings, you can set it to be very high or very low

by QSV are you reffering to Intel Quick Sync? is then it shouldn't have any performance hit, but if you feel like nvenc is faster then use nvenc

Yes, Intel Quick Sync Video. Actually QSV is slightly slower, not just "feeling like it" because I saw several comparison videos online.
