Arctic Silver 5 vs Cooler Master compound

swordsm3n

I bought a Cooler Master 212 Evo a few weeks ago and installed it using the compound that came with it. I had heard good things about Arctic Silver so I decided to buy a tube of their Arctic Silver 5 compound. I ran aida tests, and the Cooler Master compound actually performed better than the Arctic Silver. Not by much, only 1-2°C  per core. Ambient temps were 21°C during all the tests. I expected the AS to do a little better than the CM stuff that came with my Evo as I heard I could expect 5-10°C better temperatures with the AS. Oh well

I've heard that temps improve over time with the AS5 compund. It needs to 'cure' for about 48 hours. But in my experience the Cooler Master compound ain't too shabby either.

5-10°C is pretty hard to achieve with thermal compound alone unless you use Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.

Edit: i have used both and they are around the same.

Good to know Daveeede. I will test again in a couple days.

Cure time is rated at 200 hours by AS5, usually you see at most 5C difference.
