I'm thinking of doing a new build but it's been a while since I stopped keeping track of what is good and what isn't.

Currently this is what I was thinking:

- ASUS Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1
- Intel Core i7-6700K
- HyperX Fury 2666MHz 32GB (4x8GB)
- Corsair H110i GTX
- ASUS GeForce STRIX GTX 980 Ti 6GB
- Samsung 950 PRO 512GB M.2
- Corsair HX1000i
- Fractal Design Define R5 Titanium

PSU is a bit oversized, but I want room for a possible SLi/CF upgrade.

Thoughts? Comments? Ideas?

CPU: i7 5930k @ 4.5 GHz ~  Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth X99 ~ GFX: Inno3D iChiLL GeForce GTX 1080 X3 ~ RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4x8GB) 3000MHz

SSD: Samsung 950 Pro 512GB M.2 PSU: Corsair HX1200i ~ CPU Cooler: Corsair H110i GTX Screen: Samsung 32" S32D850T ** ~ Storage: Seagate Ironwolf 8TB + 24TB NAS

** waiting for a good 40ish inch G-sync screen

Drop the 32GB, get some 16GB is already more than  enough for gaming, or are you planning to edit 4K videos?

Also get also some cheaper SSD and one HDD, just one super expensive SSD for everything really doesnt compensate.

Spoiler

Main PC: CPU Xeon E3-1231 V3 - MB Asrock B85M Pro3 - RAM 16GB Kingston - GPU GTX 1070 Gainward Phoenix - PSU Corsair AX760i - Monitor  LG 22EA63 - Keyboard Corsair Strafe - Mouse Logitech G402 - Storage 2x3TB WD Green - 240GB OCZ SSD

Might be a tad overboard on the ram, unless you are using Chrome?

850 EVO is really enough, the 850 PRO is just downright expensive imo.

Well i would recommend a MSI 980Ti rather than a ASUS one, but your choice really.

The RAM is overkill tho.

The PSU is overkill tho.

The SSD is overkill tho.

The MOBO is overkill tho.

Whats your budget and where do you live? So I can improve the cost performance of the budget, and what are you going to do with the PC?

With that kind of money i would like to add one that i would rather do a full black build with a gigabyte motherboard with a full black pcb alongside a dark rock 3 pro in a h440 black version.

Alongside with a EVGA 980Ti Kingpin. Normal DDR4 RAM probably the sport blacks.

Here for eyecandy

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($115.89 @ OutletPC)
Case: NZXT H440 (Matte Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($115.99 @ Directron)
Total: $1714.08
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I need the RAM for running multiple VMware.

I looks like a solid build.

Thanks, nothing you would change?

Budget is ~2900 USD. PC is for gaming (1440p), editing some 4k, encoding 1080p, some light 3D work (Solidworks & sketchup).

I've had Gigabyte a few times some years ago, and wasn't happy with any of them - Asus on the other hand has been working solid for the past 4 years. That's why motherboard and graphics card are both Asus.

SSD storage is a minimum of 500GB, and having already tried what max SATA3 speed can do, PCI-e is therefore a must. Mechanical storage is done by my NAS, so no need for those in this build. Thanks for trying to lower the build cost, but many of the compromises are non-negotiable performance-wise.

Any bets on when we will see new graphics cards from AMD and nVidia?

I'm thinking of going with SLI, but the 6700k only has 16 PCIe lanes - how will that work with the 950 Pro as well?

I'm wondering if a 5820k or 5930k would be a better choice (on a Asus SABERTOOTH X99).

Eventho the thread seems dead after just a few posts, I'll post what I decided on anyway:

- ASUS SABERTOOTH X99

- Intel Core i7-5930K

- Corsair H110i GTX

- Corsair HX1200i

- EVGA 980 Ti 6GB HYBRID (x2 for SLi)

- Samsung 950 PRO 512GB M.2

- Kingston HyperX Savage 4 x 8 GB

- Corsair Obsidian 750D
