What upgrade should I do?

Go to solution Solved by givegomezthegun,

To be honest, I would just hang onto the cash and leave the PC as it is for now.  Save up a bit for a more worthwhile upgrade later on, what you have sounds fine compared to the minimal gains you would notice with the upgrades you mentioned.

Well, I have some money to burn (63usd converted) and I'm thinking on adding another 8 gig of ram kit (Avexir Core 2x4gb 2133mhz) or upgrade my 4670k to 4790 (used). I also know that either upgrade would show little or close to nothing improvements on performance.  Having said all that, I still want to "upgrade" my gaming rig, which of the two would show more improvement between the two aforementioned hardware?

For more info, I have a GTX 980 G1 Gaming (upgrading to 980 ti is still way out of reach), a Samsung 840 EVO 120gb (should I get another one and configure it to RAID 0?), 1TB WD Blue (should I get another one and configure it to RAID 0?) and a Dell 2713H (Should I get a 144hz 1080p monitor such as LG 24GM77, ASUS VG248QE, BenQ XL2411Z?) incase you guys have other ideas to upgrade.

Main usage of the system is strictly for gaming.

To the mods, I have no idea where to appropriately post my thread. I kindly ask to move the thread if its in the wrong section. Thank you very much.

I love free stuff.

What's the 4670k clocked at? (curiosity more than anything)

My vote would be for 144Hz monitor. You have the horsepower to run it, and if you're into FPS games it will net you the most perceived performance as far as an upgrade goes.

Reliability has come a long way for RAID 0 as a boot device, but you're still not going to get the performance a Samsung 950/951 or Intel 750 NVMe would get you...and 120GB is terrible $/GB.

4.2ghz at 1.25v.. It won't go past 4.2 even at 1.3v, guess I just got unlucky with the silicon lottery.

Hmm.. yeah, I've tried IPS 1440p, IPS 1080p  and TN 720p.. I guess its not bad to try out a TN 1080p 144hz.

I can never go back to 1080 after 1440. Really tempted to pick up a Korean 1440/144 panel, the quality scares me though...I guess the same can be said about the PG279Q release

I want to experience first hand the difference between IPS 1440p and a TN 1080p 144hz, you'll never know which one will appeal to you personally.

I think so too, but I just can't help myself to upgrade and try different hardware first hand before I decide what I want. I guess I need help. :(

I'd tend to agree. Although when I have my serious CS:GO playing friends give me shit for having the systems I have and only 60Hz panels, it starts to grate on the upgrade itch nerves.

Besides taking flak for not having supreme panels, every trusted YouTube reviewer I've seen evaluate the benefits of 144Hz/TN/IPS/etc. AND their conclusions are the same across the board, I have no problem taking it as sound advice.

I guess I'll just hold on to my money and save for a 1440p 144hz display or a 980 ti whichever comes first. Thanks for all the input. :)
