I'm trying to help my friend out with upgrading his super old pre built HP desktop, here are the specs...

CPU: i5 2400 3.1 ghz

RAM: 8gb 1333 ddr3

GPU: Radeon HD 7450

PS: 300W

Motherboard: IPISB-CU  // p7-1245

All he is looking to get right now is a new (used) GPU something like a GTX 650ti, 660, 760 or 770

But I'm thinking he would also need a new PS, maybe a 500W is that the case?

But after some stuff I have read online it's looking like that while a lot of the newer cards will fit into this mobo,

they are not able to make it past the windows boot screen after they have installed the new card, due to incompatibility?

heres a post relating to what I mean http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1987829/gtx-660-compatible-ipisb-carmel2-motherboard.html

Any info regarding his set up and what cards would be compatible would be greatly appreciated.

That CPU's socket was 1155, so any of those gpu's should be fine.

With regards to wattage, might need to check how much power the GPU's use before choosing one

750ti dunno how much faster it would be

Otherwise just save up

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

The 750ti would work that that PSU if you use a reference model, or just 1 without a power connector, don't quote me  on this though. I would suggest getting a PSU if you are doing this, it MAY need more wattage, not sure.

MOTHERBOARD: some Asus motherboard CPU: I3-4130 GPU: Gigabyte(?) GT-1030 RAM: 8GB G.SKILL SNIPER 1600MHZ RAM + 4GB AMD ram PSU: Corsair CX450 CASE: Corsair Spec-03 OS: Win 10 64 bit Keyboard: Logitech G510s Mouse: Corsair G300s Camera: Canon EOS Rebel T5
I like outdoor warning sirens. Ask me anything about them.
