I want to see LMG make a video about USB backwards compatibility and how it might affect speed. For example if I plug a USB 2 device into a USB 3 port will it be slightly faster or no? I assume no but since I don't have a way to test it so that the only thing affecting transfer speeds would be the interface I can't figure it out. i'm sure many people have the same question and I thought it might make a cool video.

there's 100's of videos on the same concept, LTT is pretty evolved at this point to make such videos. also there's a As fast as possible video on it.

EDIT : misconception, Usb 2 in a Usb 3 still gives you the same speed, you might think its faster, that's becasue you tested copying the same stuff over which was already cached at this point.

Well for one thing, USB 2 and USB 3 cables are different.  Even if they were the same, the USB hosts on either side of the cable would also have to be the same to get the speed.  Plugging in a USB 2 device to a USB 3 port, it runs at USB 2 speed.

I know but I've seen USB drives that are USB 2 copy slightly faster over USB 3 for no good reason so i thought there must be more to it than just the link speed.

Backwards compatibility doesn't equal upgrade on older device. That would be first thing to clear. It means that you can use older device with newer hardware. Like they use same connector. Speeds will always be limited to slowest part. Connector (and hardware) on USB2 is still USB2 even when connected to USB3.

Plus this is too narrow subject to even TQ video.
