Searching a good new camera

Chris030

Hello everybody,

my girlfriend and I are searching a new camera because the old one got really bad and is outdated..

As we know nothing about cameras (except megapixels and video quality) and the guys at the electronic store know even less..

Our budget is approx. 200€ and we want a camera to do good pictures on still and moving objects, of landscapes, ... , it should do good filming and have a decent zoom.

Is there something possible?

I'm happy for every input you guys can give me :-)

Photo and video can be two separate areas when it comes to implementation in cameras.  A camera that performs excellent in one might not always perform as well in the other.  Especially the models within your budget.

With a Budget of 200 Euros (approximately 217 USD) you are gonna be limited to point and shoots maybe something in the sony cyber shot line

Ok considering that 200 Euros is approximately 220 USD on the currency exchange, if you can play around with your budget a bit, these two cameras might be a good balance of photo and video while retaining your requirements.

Otherwise, I would have to say that you prioritize and select either a camera that performs better either with photos or video, and sacrifice the other function.

Thanks for the fast answers!

Well the camera will mostly be used for photos. As for the videos, I had in mind to record some table tennis matches and do highlights of these for example.

The budget can be stretched out a bit.

A camcorder will be more ideal for recording table tennis matches.  A photo camera with video recording functionality will require a lot more work.

As for a camera focusing on photography first, what's the max you can go with the budget?

Ok, thanks for the information.

For the camera, after a brief talk with my girlfriend, our budget is 200-250€ at the moment.

The longer it lasts without getting worse the better. The first one got worse and worse over time... (took longer for the photos, sometimes no reaction at all, ...)

That doesn't add a lot of options.  See if you can find a good deal for this model.

Yes, we know... What budget do you think would be good?

Actually, it could be that I ran past that camera when I was wandering around in the electronic store!

We are by far no professionals, we only do hobby photos of animals, landscapes, buildings/cities, different types of objects, ... or when we go out and chill with friends (bowling night, billard night, ...) for example.

In that case just get a camera like this, it will be easier to carry around and take good photos.  For compact cameras like this kind I recommend Canon.
