Hello everybody,

I finally decided to get myself my first desktop pc. As I know nearly nothing about the different GPU's, CPU's, etc available, I need professional help from you guys. So here it goes:

1. Budget & Location
approx. 1000€. Actually I live in Austria.

2. Aim
I'm going to use this to work (office, research, ...) and gaming. Games like Battlefield 4, Minecraft, cs:go, Starcraft 2, Cities:Skylines, Fifa 16, need for speed, ... (As my laptop can't run anything strong, I wasn't following the new games coming out so there could be some I would be interested in playing.

3. Monitors
I plan on running 1. Maybe, in 3-4 years, I'll get a second one.

4. Peripherals
Monitor, keyboard (mechanical with brown switches) and mouse are not included in the budget but it would be nice if you could suggest some good ones but not too expensive. For the OS, Windows 10, if it fits in the budget it's great.

5. Why are you upgrading?
I'm not really upgrading, I just want to get my first desktop pc as I'm currently only owning a laptop (Acer Aspire 5755G).

6. Any other special features that you want in the build?

  • 1x SSD: For the OS and most important programms
  • 1x HDD: 1 TB should be sufficient for the games, documents, videos and music
  • 1x optical drive (no need for blueray though)
  • 1x wireless adapter: because the internet box is really really weirdly placed in this appartment...
  • Case: a neat beautiful one. doesn't have to be something very fancy.
  • This tower should be "long lasting" so that I don't need to buy new parts in the near (1 year) future if possible.

If I forgot something, please ask :-)

I'm happy for every help I can get :-)

Wow! :D That's top notch working there!

How long until I would have to change some parts of it?

Wouldn't DDR4 memory be better? (surely the price would go up I presume)

As for buying & building? Would I buy all pieces seperately or how does pcpartpicker exactly work?

How long will it last? As long as it runs Windows. There are videos running Windows XP on 486 and Windows 7 on Pentium 1, so it will last some time.

DDR4? At this moment, DDR3 is better. Less latency, most MoBos support it and it's cheaper.

Buying? You can select "view by merchant" thing that can allow you to see what can you get from each merchant. It is less painful but it will be more expensive since PCPartPicker selects best price for components.

Edit: I have somehow managed to pick parts from only 2 merchants, so you are covered.

  • 4 weeks later...

The purchase had to be delayed and I had more time to think about it in the past time.

I also did some research and came up with something different. Can you guys rate it?

The desktop use will still be the same as previously said.
