So as much as I love my 290, it's loud and hot, no matter how much I don't mind. I want just a bit of a performance increase, as I'm already quite happy with the power of the 290, I just want something quieter since I don't use headphones.

I very, very much like the Hawaii architecture, so I have three options right now.

1. Save up a couple hundred now, and use that along with my 290 to get an MSI 390X. I love the card and it turns out it will fit in my SG13, so it's definitely an option here and currently Im leaning towards that.

2. Modify my 290 into a hybrid cooler again, only this time much nicer and what not. It will cost me around $100 to do but it will be quite unique and fix my problem with the noise. Although I will still have the locked shaders and stuff which I don't really like.

3. Wait several months for Polaris instead of buying a card now. While I do like Polaris and I am excited for it, it's still a ways away. The plus to this one though is I can probably get a flagship card since it will be around my birthday and my parents can pay for it.

What do you guys think? Honestly the 390X is all the power I'll need for probably a couple years.

Eh, upgrading from a 290 to a 390X isn't worth the money...

I'd honestly wait. Or get a cheap pair of headphones.

To me it is worth it because not only do I get a quieter, nice looking card, but I also get a lot more performance. A reference 290 like mine barely keeps up with a 970 but the 390X is basically on par with a 980.

And I don't like headphones.

I don't like Fiji like I like Hawaii.

That'll cost me quite a bit but I can probably sell my 290 for more when the time comes.

People like fermi but they moved on

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

If you're going to upgrade, I'd go for a 390 instead. The 390X isn't worth the extra $50-100 difference.

The 290 will hold up fine until Polaris. Save the money and you might have enough to get the flagship model (or a decent upgrade at least).

Temps man. Either way the 980 and the fury nano are kinda not worth it looking from what he wants. The 390/x prob is best for him.

I forgot the nano was just a fury x without the cooler. Reason i forgot is because it has no good reason to exist. Thermal throttles like its chillin in hell.

14nm fiji confirmed? JK. but yea right now getting a high end card isnt the smartest of ideas seeing as how in a few months the next lineup is planned to come out.
