Microphone and Mixer

Hi,
I'm looking at getting an audio mixer so I am able to easily control both my pc audio and my Microphone easily.

I also would like to use an XLR Microphone as I seem to be having issues with USB Microphones.

What would you guy's recommend that is under $100 or under £70 in my currency.

Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention I've settled on the Xenyx 502 mixer, it's more the microphone I'm not sure of.

1. MXL V67G

2. Studio Projects B1

3. Shure SM57 or SM58

4. Audio-technica AT2020

5. Monoprice Dynamic microphone

All great options.

Hold on, so you want to control the audio of your computer going to your headphones/speaker, but at the same time the audio going from the microphone into the computer.

Is there anything unusual about that? That's what audio interfaces and audio mixers are designed for.

Of course, you can't separate your computer sounds individually, you can only control the volume of the output as a whole. Not sure if that's what OP meant, though.

Yeah not like individual inputs. But I will hopefully be doing video streaming/recording so I can do on the fly adjustments as I will also be swapping between speakers and headphones.

So I'm presuming your going to plug the computer and microphone into there own input channels and then the a single output to the computer, and using the monitor headphone port on the mixing desk. Then using PFL to only listen to the computer output through your headphones.

The Dick of the audio page!

Good call, I originally assumed he meant the USB version. But now I remember the USB version is named the Q502USB, not the Xenyx 502.

Yeah you should seriously get the USB version.

Also, was that $100 for both the mixer and the microphone or just the microphone? I originally assumed it was just for the microphone. If it's for both, then that means your budget is pretty much limited to the Monoprice dynamic microphone + an XLR cable.

That's for just the microphone. If the price goes Over doesn't really concern me. As I said USB microphones are being really shoddy on my PC and also like the diversity of being able to use multiple devices.

Just remembered something quite crucial. The Q502's phantom power doesn't go up to 48V, so you shouldn't rely on it to work on most condenser microphones. Dynamic microphones would be fine, though, since they require no phantom power.

The cheapest interface I would recommend is the Mackie Onyx Blackjack - I would rather buy a cheaper microphone than compromise on the audio interface for both sound quality and reliability reasons.

No. Its specifications state 48V, 2mA typical.

Would one of them Behringer Power boosters work?

edit: also, just to let you know, the microphone list I made - even though you wouldn't go wrong with any of them, I listed them in order of preference :P

I was a bit confused at first because googling "Behringer power booster" didn't come up with anything :P next time it'd be convenient to state the device's full name.

I haven't heard of this product on forums or from friends, but it seems sound (no pun intended) and there are good reviews - it'll probably suit your needs just fine. You'll need to buy an extra XLR cable, though.

Right I'm just going to go for that and hope for the best! Thanks for your help!
