Upgrading Win8.1 > Win10 on new drive?

I have a question regarding the free windows 10 upgrade.

I have not installed it yet, as i've been planning to start fresh on a new SSD first.

My question is, will I still get the free upgrade option if I first install win 8 on my new SSD?

Go to the Windows 10 upgrade site, get the media creator for installing on multiple pc's and make a bootable Usb. Boot from it, and put your 8.1 code in
