I'm having a really hard time running a very certain cable I need...

I need a male micro usb to full sized female with the ability to use external power. I want to use my ODAC with my G3 but my G3 can't provide enough power from it's micro usb port and the DAC just shuts off instantly. To fix this I need to power the DAC from an external power source but I can't seem to find the right cable for under 10$.

Update: I found it...

this is a total bodge, but should work:

- buy a cheap OTG cable

- buy the cheapest male USB A you can find

- carefully cut the OTG, taking out the red and black wire, cut red and cut some insulation off black so you have bare copper

- on the phone side, solder a 1K ohm resistor between VCC and GND (red and black)

- connect red-red and black-black between the female USB A on the OTG cable and the male USB A plug.

- insulate properly so there's no shorts

- cover in heat shrink for looks

the 1K resistor is mostly there to let the phone know something is connected, and can be any value as long as its low enough for the phone to detect, and high enough to not senselessly waste power.

the ground lead needs to be connected trough to have a reference point for the data signal.

i'm not sure on leaving red connected to charge your phone with the thing, so i'm not gonna recommend it. (if you're feeling adventurous, go ahead and try)

if you leave both red and black connected trough you dont need the resistor anymore.

Get a portable amp maybe. They have their own internak battery. There are also potable amp/dac. Most notably from Fiio

I have a ODAC which is better and I own a O2.
