Wired or wireless for the audio connection.

I use a Turtle Beach 500x Stealth, Surround sounds, completely wireless, It has a wireless transmitter to the headset that doesn't require any additional wires to the controller and has all audio controls on the headset its self. It is also $230 so out of your price range. I had an older turtle beach that was stereo sound and I have to give mad props to surround sound over stereo so definitely try to go with a surround sound headset over stereo, though your price range would make that difficult. As for preset vs programmable, Completely Pointless to me, I just set it to one and never changed it, If anything the buttons are annoying when they get accidentally pressed and everything goes monotone.

I recommend turtle beach, but try to get wireless, the cords are coated in enamel and for all purposes impossible to solder and repair.

If your willing to go up to $150

This is the step below what I have, careful there is a stupid audio clip on the site.

surround or stereo, either way

I use the Turtle Beach PX22s for Xbox One, they're $50 but you will need an adapter if you don't have a newer xbone controller
