Repacking a ISO breaks it

Go to solution Solved by Bittenfleax,

So how do I rebuild it right?

1. Download ImgBurn

2. Get all the folders you want to create into an ISO (EG, get all of the files out of the old ISO, put them into a folder with the new cfg file)

3. Then select create ISO from files

4. Go to advanced tab

5. Bootable disk

6. Check Make Image bootable

7. Boot image, Google and download/find ETFSBOOT.com (it is an application, not website)

8. Create ISO

I did it earlier today worked fine with another ISO.

Ok so I have this Windows 8.1 Iso that works great stock in Oracle Box but if I extract the files (mount in windows explore and copy paste) and add a ei.cfg file in the sources folder and re-pack it I get a FATAL: No bootable medium etc error.

So the way I see it, it's when re-packing the ISO it breaks it. Used 2 programs with the same result.

I do this in linux. Here's a tutorial

https://rwmj.wordpress.com/2010/11/04/customizing-a-windows-7-install-iso/

(I'd just use a bootable usb for linux or something)

looking for windows solution...

editt-

didn't find windows solution I could vouch for personally.

thats because an iso isnt really meant to be edited in any way, as data on a CD has to be stored in a VERY specific way.

(thats also why you cant read/write a CD like a regular file system)

So how do I insert my ei.cfg file to remove the product key input screen?
