Does X99 have full ECC support?

79wjd

I know that there are some consumer boards which can utilize ECC memory but can't take advantage of any of the extra features that ECC memory offers (i.e. you're paying for ECC memory but only getting non-ECC memory). But that's not the case with X99 right, X99 is capable of fully utilizing all of the advantages of ECC (specifically the Asrock X99m Extreme4)?

P.s. I plan on using Registered ECC memory with that board: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KK8XNLA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

The CPU is a Xeon E5 2603v3, so the CPU supports ECC memory.

Honestly, this is something I'd just look through depending on the CPU and motherboard.

this

Yaaas

Depends on the CPU you plan on using. Most X99 Xeons have ECC support.

The CPU is a Xeon E5 2603v3, so the CPU supports ECC memory. I ask because there are a few Asrock Q87/H87 WS boards that have support for ECC memory listed but are unable to take advantage of ECC features regardless of the CPU used.

I personally wouldn't chance it.

It shouldn't be a chance thing. Either X99 fully supports ECC or it doesn't. It's just not particularly well documented. But the spec sheet for Asrock's X99 board with ECC support looks different than the spec sheet for their Q87 board with ECC 'support' making me think it is fully supported.

I'd assume if that's the case, X99 fully supports ECC memory.
