This will be my first gaming rig. I haven't purchased anything yet, and yes, it is an expensive build, which I'm okay with because I want it to last for a while before I need to start upgrading parts. Just wondering how this build stacks up, and looking for any comments/advice.

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6Ghz Quad-Core Processor (don't plan on over-clocking)
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard:  MSI Z97 GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory:  Kingston HyperX Fury Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL10 Memory
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5" 6Gb/s Solid State Drive
Storage: WD Black 2TB 3.5" SATA 7200RPM 64MB Hard Drive
Video Card: ASUS Strix GeForce GTX 980 4GB GDDR5
Power Supply: Corsair CS Modular CS650M 650W 80+ Gold Certified Power Supply
OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home Full (64-bit)
Case: Cooler Master HAF X Full Tower Gaming Case
Mouse: Logitech G700s Rechargeable Laser Gaming Mouse
Keyboard: Logitech G710+ Wired Backlight Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Monitor: Looking for a 1080p, 24+", 144Hz, IPS/TN panel monitor (hopefully < $500)

You'll notice there is no monitor, but a wishlist for the monitor. The biggest issue is the debate between IPS/TN panel type. I've read that IPS is better in one article, then TN is better in the next.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I plan to get TrackIR in the future. If anyone has one or has used one, what was you experience like with it? And will my rig be able to run it on sims (DCS World, ETS, ATS, etc)

Any recommendations/comments appreciated. Thanks :)

Choose a PSU from tier 1 to 2 on this list: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/406160-psu-ranking-and-tiers/ As the CS.. well, it's better than a CX... Get the 4790 k if you want to overclock. IPS panels tend to have better colours...etc than TN panels. Btw, welcome to the forums :D Please remember to follow your own threads.

Don't get a overclocking cpu cooler if you don't have a k processor it's a waste!

Also drop that power supply, I had one and it literally exploded and smoke came out of it, and I had two of them one time some of it melted.

I would drop the cpu cooler and get a 980 Ti with the extra cash if you don't wanna overclock.

If you aren't gonna overclock drop that CPU cooler... But if you go with a 4790k you could probably hit 4.6 or 4.7 ghz.

If you drop the cooler you could get a GTX 980 ti.

I was gonna say get an r9 fury instead of GTX 980 but if you are gaming at 1080p GTX 980 might be a bit more worth it, if you go 1440p though r9 fury is better.

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I haven't really looked into overclocking. I know the basics of what it is, but how hard is it to overclock a CPU?

Not that hard at all. There are many guides on youtube on how to overclock and it just involves going into the BIOS and changing a few values, then stresstesting.

The build is pretty good, however I think I have a completely different build that I guarantee works and will give out performance better than the one that is listed, because it is my own rig. It is also around the same price, so... Yeah.

Yeah not hard at all. Just ramp up clocks and voltage then run stress test once you find the CPUs limits. It only took me around 30 minutes to get 4.6 ghz on my 6700k.
