Hi,

I was wondering what would happen if I connect some HDDs to the PSU but not to any SATA ports.

Do they stop spinning over time or do they keep spinning until the system is shut down?

I have some HDDs for backups and I don't want to waste their lifetime when I dont need them. It is easy for me to disconnect the sata cables without entering the case.

Leaving the power in but SATA means they are still spinning which still uses their lifetime. Hot swap HDD'S are the answer

They keep spinning. I'd find an external solution if you do that often. I'm pretty sure there are tons of hot swap external bays.

I know. It is just nice to keep everything in the case...
