So, been getting flickering issues with my year old Dell U3415W and I'm at a loss wondering what's wrong with my system. This all started around Christmas. I've done everything from trying different cables (mDP and DP), running the monitor with the DP 1.1 setting, trying different display port connections from my GPU ( Asus Strix GTX 980 Ti), trying different drivers. My old TN panel HP monitor and my TV (55" Samsung) work just fine without any issues. And the issue is really weird. It sort of comes and goes. One time there was a "ghost image" that stayed even after I rebooted my PC.

So I finally called Dell and explained the situation and they sent me another unit. And after a few hours of testing I can confirm that the flickering issue still persists. So I'm pretty f****d now.  :(

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

well either that new monitor is also defect or somethings up with your system.

i'd say the latter tbh. Have you tried another DP connector on your GPU?

Whats your GPU core clock at?

 It could be causing artefacts

This happens both with OC and without.

Btw. I did upgrade to that 980 Ti early December and upgraded to Windows 10. Could this issue be related to the GPU/Windows 10?

Nope. Most of my friends are laptop owning console gamers so can't think of anyone right now that could properly drive this monitor.

it's not about properly, you just need someone with a video output lol. Just ask someone with a notebook, it's fine for testing.

Okay. I'll try.

Also, since my TV (which is connected by HDMI) is working just fine and my monitor (which is connected by DP) is having these flickering issues, could this issue be related to Displayport?

Gonna look if I have an HDMI 2.0 cable lying somewhere and try to run the monitor with it (since it apparently it supports HDMI 2.0 according to the specs) and will report my results here.

By the way, will there be any difference image quality wise between HDMI 2.0 vs DP? Like colors etc.

You can also use hdmi 1.4 for it but it'll run at 50hz.

Found one. The monitor reads 3440x1440@60hz in the OSD menu so pretty sure this is a 2.0 cable. No flickering thus far. Will give a report in a couple of days if I don't run into issues sooner.

By the way, if this issue is DP related, can those be fixed by something like driver/BIOS update or should I contact the store where I bought the card and as for a replacement?

Okay, so. Started flickering again with the HDMI 2.0 as well so it's not a DP related issue. And managed to lend a spare GTX 780 from my cousin and flickers with it as well.

It's very odd though, the flickering is random and it comes and goes. And seems to only happen with this monitor. My TV does not do this.

I'm open to any ideas what I should try next..
