Graphics card upgrade

kotadan

Brief description of components,

I currently have an ATI 6850 Asus edition a 650w psu, i5 2500k Oc to 4.6 Ghz with Arctic cooling Freezer 7 heat sync, 8Gb PC3 10666 DDR3 memory, 1 1TB hard drive, 1 Sandisk extreme ssd, Asus P8Z68-V LE Motherboard  and 5 case fans.

Should I get another 6850 cheap and put it into crossfire if my psu can handle that ? Or should I get a better newer card without spending too much?

Thanks

Dan   .

You'll be better off with a better newer card.

7000 Series is very very very very cheap at the moment.

Or you wait a few weeks to see what the 9000 series [@CoolBeans] has to offer ^^ [should be announced this month]

Single GPU configs are always better for compatibility and power consumption.

Depends on your budget, a 7950 would be an ideal upgrade for cost effectivness :)

I would just save up some more and buy a 7950/7970, or wait for the 9000 series. Crossfiring lower end cards isn't worth it in my opinion.

I would wait for 9xxx series or maxwell, if you do not want to wait then i would buy 7970 or 7950, if that is in your price range. :)

General rule of GPU buying:

When you decide you want a new one, wait for the next new set of cards to come out. Because if you buy one randomly, the next series is guaranteed to be a few weeks away, and then you'll feel like an idiot.

+1 on the 7950/7970 as your graphics card upgrade because these cards have had a big price drop and they offer great performance for the money. If you can wait, I would suggest you to wait for the 9000 series to release.
