air or water and which?

sacamoises

i wanna get:

I74790k

asus Z97-A

corsair spec-1 case

and i will need a cooler. I have never owned a desktop before and this is my first build.

I really wanted to get the corsair h100i but it wont fit my case without modding and since im a novice I dont want to let much chance for thing to go wrong... what is the best option for me since I will not be able to fit the h100i in my case? (and I dont wanna change the case)

I am also open to air coolling options. I was first going to get the cooler master 212 evo but it wont fit in the case without slightly touching the acrylic

Check out the ID-Cooling 120L.

It's really cheap and reviews are very positive.

Air vs water is really more a matter of just preference and affordability in my opinion. There is a reason why the Hyper 212 is one of the most popular coolers on the market. I really gets the job done while at the same time being relatively cheap and easy to install.

As far as air vs water, I had a corsair hydro series cooler on my CPU, but switched to a Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E literally just because I thought it looked better. It ended up giving me consistently 10-15'C lower temps. A high to mid tier air cooler can give just as good, if not better, performance that an all in one cooler like the h100i.

A 500W PSU is fine. When adding a CPU cooler you're usually just adding a fan or two and that really doesn't put too much on the PSU.

If I were you, I would go with whatever looks the most visually appealing and fits within your budget.

Hyper 212:

Newegg's CPU cooler listing:

Be careful with some of the really large air cooling heat sinks because a small case can sometimes have height issues with them.

Oh, right I see that now in your original post.

The case you have does support the Corsair h50 and h60 coolers. I think the main difference is that the h60 uses a different pump design and has LED lighting on the pump. Oh and looks like the h60 supports AMD sockets, but the 50 does not.

There are low profile air coolers as well.

Noctua NH-L12:

Silverstone NT06-PRO:

There are other style low profile coolers as well. These are just the brands that I am familiar with already.

The 212 Evo fits in the case. The 150mm spec isn't the full height between the side panel and the cpu socket.

it says 150W in the description... thats all

150w is the cooling capacity of the cooler and not how much power it draws. For example, your 4790k has a tdp of 88w.

Looks like a solid cooler.

Judging from this picture, the manufacture's product page info and other pictures of it in a real builds from google, it should not have any issues with compatibility with the RAM.

Plus it looks like it would look awesome in any build.
