Switching from AMD to Intel, (Reinstalling Windows?)

I'm contemplating how I should go about switching from an old AMD FX platform to a new Intel Skylake platform. Recently I upgraded my GPU to an R9 390, but my old FX-6100 CPU is bottlenecking the card in CPU intensive games.

 

I'm aware that it is recommended to reinstall the OS when switching CPU/motherboard platforms for the sake of drivers, etc. I'm not worried about losing personal files on the SSD that my OS is on, as I have all those files on a separate hard drive, or backed up online.

The real question I want to ask: Is there a way to simply reinstall Windows 10, (which I upgraded from Windows 7,) without having to buy a new copy of Windows 10?

Likely won't activate your old license, as your hardware ID has changed significantly. (New motherboard and CPU).

I just went thtough this myself. Same exact thing actually.

 

Make a USB of your windows as it is with the Media Creation Tool. Refer to my GUIDES section to see how to do this.

If you have a copy of your original OS installation. 

 

Or you could download a new copy and input your serial key when prompted.(Get an image, use RUFUS to put it on a USB, boot to USB and install with your serial key)

You will need a new copy as the digital licence will be applied to the AMD system

I updated a few days ago. Windows 10 worked fine after the change, but I had to put in my key again.

I haven't reinstalled Windows ever since I upgraded, simply because I didn't feel like I needed to.

I don't appear to be having any issues, sooo......

 

As for the license...

Do you have your Windows 10 retail product key? If so, use that to apply the license to your new computer.

If you have upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8.1, you can use the product key that was used for your original install of 7/8.1.

If you don't have either product keys, you will have to contact Microsoft directly through their support lines.

 

But that being said, have fun with your shiny new rig once Windows 10 is installed and all good! And thank goodness you're jumping ship from the FX line. I did the same a week ago, and I am happy that I got it.

If it is a UEFI to UEFI just swap chipset driver! (unless windows update fixes it)

When I changed my CPU, MoBo and RAM I had issues with reactivating my windows 10 license key so all I did was contacted Microsoft and they changed my key over to my new hardware.
