Hi I recently built my first PC (I'm 17) and one of my friends said that since I put 16gb of RAM in my computer that somehow I am slowing it down? He said that it takes "it" longer to cycle? I'm just asking you for confirmation. Personally I think he is just butthurt that my PC is better than his now and he wants to seem smarter. Thanks! (I'm pretty new to building PCs)

MORE RAM = FASTER MULTITASKING! = FASTER COMPUTER!
Maybe stick it in with "Go faster stripes"?

it'd only make your computer slower if,as mentioned above the CAS latency is higher,or if the frequency is lower than your previous ram.

as to cycling ram,you should just put that into the part of your brain with santa and the tooth fairy .

your computer doesn't cycle memory.

although if you had a faulty memory stick it would take longer to stress test one into failing since theres more GB of ram to test.

furthermore I think it should be posted in this thread.

It's a confusing subject, but thanks to modern processors with better memory controllers it's not something you really have to worry about that much.

Memory does go through cycles, that's what the clock speed is all about, basically its cycles per second. This can be deceptive though as things like CAS latency will have an effect on the clock speed. If you divide CAS/clock speed you will get a response time, the lower the better, but we are talking minute fractions of a second. Usually there isn't much difference in performance between the best and the worst kits, maybe 1% at the most, if you overclock them to the extreme you might get more, but IMO its still negligible.

AMD APU's seem to perform better in terms of graphics with faster memory, so this would be the only reason to buy really fast memory.

More ram gives you the ability to run more programs and programs that eat ram.
