How much of a performance gain would I receive from going from the stock speeds on my Intel i5 3570k which are 3.4GHz to 3.8GHz?

I don't want my processor running too hot, I'm running a stock cooler right now but I'm going to upgrade to a Hyper 212 Evo w/ sp120's on it! Just let me know how much of a performance gain would I receive going from 3.4 to 3.8GHz and should I go higher than that? Please let me know! Thanks in advance! Please tell me if its worth OCing as well!

My full specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K @ 3.40GHz | 52 °C
RAM: 16.0GB 1600MHz Corsair Vengeance DDR3

MOBO: ASRock Z77 Pro3 | 36 °C
GPU: 2048MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti (NVIDIA) | 44 °C

Depends on the games.

With a 212 Evo you will be able to push around 4.2-4.4Ghz depending on the chip. If you OC to those levels you'll see pretty decent improvements over stock speeds in most tasks :)

What kind of temperatures will I be looking at if I go to 4.2-4.4.GHz on the 212 Evo?

How does it depend on games? It doesn't just purely depend on what games I play.

Pretty sure it'll have a performance gain overall.. not just in games

Not really. I've had my 3570K at stock frequencies before and I was roaming around on my system. I came from a 4.4GHz overclock, and I felt no overall difference in computer operation. Nothing was much faster. Also, if you convert files at all, overclocking will give you a performance boost in that regard too.

Some games like Minecraft and BF3 are more CPU intensive so you will see more of an improvement compared to GPU bound games. In a perfect world, an overclock like that is a 10.5% increase in performance. You won't get the much of improvement. This isn't a perfect world

All overclocking depends on how high your CPU is binned. That overclock might have you at 30 degrees. Or it might have you at 60-90. It depends on how lucky you got

Depends on how much voltage you apply.

80-85 is about usual at 4.4Ghz. If you aren't comfortable with that you can bump it down to 4.2 and drop the voltages a little and you'll see mid 70's

Yeah, I'll be comfortable with a maximum of 75'C nothing higher tbh.

Don't want it to run too hot!!

Okay, but help answer those questions!

It is worth to OC, you will gain maybe avg.10FPS, and when you get good cooler you can OC much as you want, (stay under 85c on prime95) :)

Intels recommended maximum temperate at the IHS is 67.4 degrees for that CPU. Keep that in mind when looking at thermals

uhmm the 3570k boosts itself to 3.8ghz stock.. it wouldnt make a speck of difference because your clocks would be the same.. now like exconhd mentioned 4.2ghz is every easy to achieve with a 212 evo :)

How does it "boost itself" to 3.8GHz stock? I've been using it and on programs like CPU-Z and Speccy it always says 3.4GHz

the 3570k has a boost frequency of 3.8ghz just like my 3770k has a boost frequency of 3.9ghz.. Intel's official term for it is turbo frequency. 3.4ghz is the base clock

It boosts to 3.8GHz on one core when that core is being pushed.

A 212 should be able to punch out up to 4.5 without drama's (what you need to realize is whatever temp you hit with prime95 you will almost certainly never see outside of a benchmark.

I will give you a piece of advice though rather than getting a 212 and putting sp120's on it you would be better off getting a noctua cooler or even a dark rock. There is no point spending as much money on fans as you did on the tower heatsink, it is a recommended cooler because for its price it performs well if you throw its value in fans at it your better off just getting a better cooler from the get go.

i5-3570k @ 4.4ghz (1.240v) || Asrock extreme 4 || CM Hyper 212 evo

Samsung 840 || WD blue 1tb || WD green 1tb || Powercolor 7870 xt @ (1200 mhz core : 1500 mhz mem)

Powered by a silverstone strider 500w psu in a NZXT 210.

My 3930k @ 3.8 vs 4.5 doesn't really make a difference at all, in some games I don't even get an increase, if you do rendering/ etc it will help quite a bit though.
