So with the upcoming razer sale, I thought it would be a fitting time to replace my 3 year old razer deathstalker.

https://insider.razerzone.com/index.php?threads/insider-ces-2016-appreciation-event.10666/

I very much like the idea of rgb on the keyboard, so naturally I looked into the razer chroma series. I was presented with 2 choices. The blackwidow, and the 10 keyless version of the blackwidow.

Blackwidow - 110 CAD after discount

Blackwidow 10 keyless - 90 CAD after discount

My question is weather the extra 20 dollars is worth it. The only time I use the numpad is when flying planes in GTA 5, however I do play the game often, and it would be hard to rebind the keys to something else.

Not having the numpad would help me keep the mouse and keyboard closer together, so that would be a nice plus as well.

Also since I have only every used island style keyboards, whats the key pressure like, as in is it harder to depress the keys compared to a membrane keyboard (I'm thinking of getting the stealth version, which would be Kahil's version of the cherry red)

Why not go for something with Cherry MX switches, like the CM Storm Quickfire TKL? Blue switches (IMO) feel similar to the switches Razer uses in those keyboards (but those feel cheaper to me).

Personally I never used numpad, so I of course am going to say it's not worth the extra money to get those keys. But it depends on if you will use it a lot of course

Deathstalker is chicklet/laptop keyboard style keys right? This will feel different but I hate the sort of keys the Deathstalker uses, so yeah.

The ten keys are useful for me. A ton of my games have keys that are on the NumPad, so it's best for me. But if you don't have (m)any games that use those keys, not worth it.

Yeah, I have the feeling I'm going to regret not having the numpad for that one instance when I need it...

If you REALLY want a Blackwidow (this isn't the topic of the thread but, when I had my blackwidow I hated it, broke 6 months in and now I have a K70, even though the Razer keyboard is half off, anyway), I would get the one with 10 keys. I find myself upset when I play games/type things that benefit from a 10 key pad, and it isn't that much more anyway.

Just depends, do you use your keypad on a daily basis?

Not at all. The rest of the keyboard looks like a mess, but the numpad area is pristine xD

You could always get a USB keypad, and only plug it in when you're playing a game where you use it. I don't know if the keyboards you're looking at have a USB passthrough, but mine has one and it's on the right side, very conveniently placed for a keypad.

The blackwidow 2014 has a usb passthrough so I'm 99% sure it does, but I don't think you would find a quality one less than $20.

I dont have a preference to razer keyboards, but its just that the 50% discount brings their RGB keyboards into my price range.

I dont want to pay full price for a keyboard with flashing lights...

It doesn't have to be a top of the line keypad, I've seen plenty on Amazon for less than 20$ and haven't look that much. And even if it costs 20$ and end up the same price as the full-size keyboard, you still have the convenience of removing it when it's not in use.

Yeah, in all honesty, its just 20$

It would be cool to have the best of both worlds by using a breakout keypad... but as you said, finding one for $20 would be hard
